Dodgy Brother Laser Printers — just look online to see all the tricks you have to perform to get the little beasties to accept that they have a new (non-genuine-Brother) toner cartridge.
Check this page for examples: http://www.fixya.com/support/t522658-brother_5250dn_printer_toner_light
My problem was the Status and Toner lights were permanently ON.
Part of Solution 7 finally worked for me. I cleaned what I guess are the transmitter and receiver pair that send photons thru the toner cartridge. That seemed to make no difference. I tried all the “press button x and power-cycle the printer” listings mentioned. Finally I taped the small toner switch sensor (right inside the LHS in the toner cartridge bay) that interfaces with the dodgy gear flag and power-cycled. Then wow, the Toner light went off and remained off.
This does not help me to like Brother. After HP burned me a couple of times, I decided never to buy HP again. Please don’t do it to me Brother…

Stuff.co.nz have a piece on Dame Kiri visiting Israel and the sad Mr. Minto opposing her visit. My thoughts?
What an fruit-loop Minto is.
There are so many causes he could be involved in, but instead he pours out his hatred on tiny Israel.
Meanwhile his “friends” all over the mid-east are rejecting their own un-democratic dictatorial torturing murderous governments who drop bombs and use snipers against their own people — and what does this fruit-loop do? Picks on little democratic Israel with her tiny slither of oil-poor land (compared to 400x that amount for the surrounding Arabs and Muslims).
Meanwhile Hamas fires 80 rockets into Israel, and Palestinians slaughter a sleeping Israeli family including children in their sleep.
One Hamas leader’s son, after experiencing Hamas torture in Hamas operated prisons, escaped to the USA and wrote a book about it called “Son of Hamas”. I wonder if Minto has read it? Somehow I very much doubt it.

Wow, I had to triple check this one.
I clicked reply to an email.
The sender’s name appeared in the “To” field.
The subject “Re: …….” appeared in the “Subject” field.
But another persons confidential email appeared in the body of the email.
Wow, that’s the second really bad bug I have found in Mail. (The other repeatable bug is this: Try quitting mail while it is in the process of sending an email. Error message and then Mail cannot be closed using the usual means.)

Ouch, not sure how it happened. I was showing the device to someone at church.
We were on the wifi access screen and the device completely locked up.
Holding the slide reset button for about 5 seconds made the screen go completely blank.
This page was a big help. Holding the slide reset button for about 15 seconds made the device go through a reset sequence.
About 60 seconds and then were are all back to normal.
Ok, so the “I hate e-Books — should should stick with p-Books” brigade do have a point this time

From the USA, Albert Mohler writes:
In other words, the Obama administration is now ready to use the coercive power of the state to force medical personnel to perform acts they consider to be morally wrong and unhealthy for their patients. One obvious implication of this is that the state now finds it necessary to force medical professionals to do what they by conscience do not think is right. Allowed to act by conscience, these medical professionals clearly would not do what the state now requires them to do.
Gee, what a surprise from Messiah Obama. All of us cynics could see this sort of thing coming from miles away.

John Tierney of The New York Times offers a really important report on the Society for Personality and Social Psychology’s recent annual meeting. As Tierney writes, “Some of the world’s pre-eminent experts on bias discovered an unexpected form of it at their annual meeting.”
It all started when Jonathan Haidt, a social psychologist at the University of Virginia, took a poll of his audience at the meeting:
He polled his audience at the San Antonio Convention Center, starting by asking how many considered themselves politically liberal. A sea of hands appeared, and Dr. Haidt estimated that liberals made up 80 percent of the 1,000 psychologists in the ballroom. When he asked for centrists and libertarians, he spotted fewer than three dozen hands. And then, when he asked for conservatives, he counted a grand total of three.

Dame Margaret Sparrow – ALRANZ
March 30, 2011 By admin Leave a Comment
Right to Life wishes to extend its best wishes to Dame Margaret Sparrow on the occasion of her handing over the leadership of the Abortion Law Reform Association of New Zealand to Dr Morgan Healey.
Our Society acknowledges her passionate dedication and commitment to the interests of women over 32 years as President of ALRANZ, we do not however agree with her vision.
Right to Life shares this commitment to upholding the rights of women but sadly differs in its vision of what those rights are. The commitment of this Society is founded on a deep respect for the inherent dignity of women who are invited by our Creator to share with him in bringing new life into the world.
Right to Life recognises that there are tragically some pregnancies that cause great distress for women because of their circumstances and abandonment by the fathers of their child. We recognise that women distressed by their pregnancy are often coerced by family and friends to terminate the life of their child. Most women do not want to terminate the life of their child, they desperately want compassion and help. These vulnerable women deserve the support and protection of the community. A caring community should provide practical support by offering alternatives to the violence of abortion which destroys an innocent and defenceless unborn child.
Right to Life is opposed to violence against women and to their unborn children, who are the weakest members of the human family. With respect, we disagree with ALRANZ in its support for abortion being a backup to so-called failed contraceptives and it being an integral part of reproductive health. It is not, it is part of a culture of death. If we are to truly love and respect women we must also love their child.
Right to Life welcomes Dame Margaret’s reference to abortion being increasingly recognised as “a human rights issue and a women’s rights issue.” It is always wrong to kill the innocent. We believe that there is an increasing awareness in society that the killing of unborn children is a serious violation of the human rights of the child, the foundation right being an inalienable right to life. The pro abortion movement perpetrates a grave injustice on women by falsely claiming that women have a human right to kill their unborn child. There is no such right.
New Zealand’s abortion laws are not “antiquated”, they just need to be upheld, they were passed by Parliament with the intention of protecting the health and welfare of women and the lives of their unborn children. Right to Life looks forward to the day when both ALRANZ and Right to Life will share a common vision of respecting and protecting both the mother and her child.
